8000 kilometre photo
Wed, 01 Sep 2010The excitement of cycling on from Istanbul towards Cappadocia almost made us miss the 8000 km milestone. We took this photo arriving in the town of Bilecik after a morning spent darning holes in our tent mesh from hungry ants. The road to Bilecik was busy with trucks ferrying marble from quarries (like the one in the background) while after Bilecik the rain closed in for a wet afternoon of cycling. The passing truck drivers kept our spirits up with much horn tooting and waving though. – Posted by Justin

the plan

We're two New Zealanders with bicycles and a tent heading East from Santander in Spain towards Turkey, and eventually Russia or Central Asia through to South East Asia.
After six years working in London, we were keen to travel for longer than a few weeks at a time and wanted to immerse ourselves in places that we visit. We're not out to break any records but cycling seems to be about the right speed for us. It's been too long since our trip from one end of the UK to the other (LEJOG), and our touring bikes are itching for another proper adventure.
