Being in Greece for less than 24 hours as we transited from Bulgaria to Turkey we only had time to document one meal along the way. We ate lunch in the town of Kastanies which was largely deserted on a hot Saturday afternoon before we headed down the road for a cool swim in an empty music festival site next to the Ardas river. The below documents what two hungry cyclists ate for one meal in Greece.
Lunch
Two Giros filled with pork, french fries, lettuce, tomato and mustard washed down by an ice cold Amstel.

Bulgaria confounded us a bit on the food front: we struggled to find fresh bread shops like those we had been accustomed to in the rest of the Balkans and fresh fruit and vegetables weren’t on shop shelves where we expected to see them. At the end of this day of food we decided to treat ourselves to a stay at the posh Hotel Bulgaria in Minerali Bani. – Posted by Emma

We tried to document a Croatian day of food on three different occasions, failing each time to capture our evening meal – maybe it was sun stroke? We finally managed to photograph every meal on our last day in Croatia. We stayed in a caravan within a campground with a kitchen and we invite you to admire the fine china used for our dinner. – Posted by Emma

This is what we ate on the day we left new friends in Novi Beograd and cycled west towards Novi Sad. In the excitement of meeting more than 100 canoeists in a small village along the Danube river (part of the annual TID event) we completely forgot the day’s important assignment and didn’t take a snapshot of our dinner of aubergine and chickpea curry. We hope you’ll forgive us for including the following night’s cold hotel room dinner instead! – Posted by Emma

We’ve tried to document a typical day’s food intake for two hungry cyclists in Spain. Note we normally wouldn’t have two dinners but this day began with a free camp outside Biescas and ended with an offer of a comfortable bed in Gerbe. – Posted by Emma

We captured our final full day of food in Bosnia which for a change didn’t include any bosnian pie. We had final breakfast with Amin in Sarajevo, met two cyclists on their way from Tibet to France after lunch and found a free camp spot for our final night in the country where just for a change, it started to rain as we cooked dinner. – Posted by Justin

Hi guys!
I love your food posts
Just thought I’d let you know that we’ve started our cycling journal now, over at Crazy Guy on a Bike. Are you still planning to do a winter ski break so we can catch up with you or are you pushing on through?
Happy cycling!

Hi Oanh
We were just thinking about you two and how your trip must be about to start just the other day! We really like the story about your website name – even after 8000 km we still feel like we’re not doing something that could be called an expedition. Although recent wild dog experiences in Turkey have made us consider getting a gun…
While pushing through is really tempting after our last week of riding in Turkey, we’ll stop in two more weeks and return by bus to Istanbul to sit out winter, hopefully both working till early April where we think we’ll go on up to Russia / Mongolia / China and South East Asia. Let us know where you end up and maybe we’ll see you in Asia if not before.
