Day Of Food – Spain
We’ve tried to document a typical day’s food intake for two hungry cyclists in Spain. Note we normally wouldn’t have two dinners but this day began with a free camp outside Biescas and ended with an offer of a comfortable bed in Gerbe. – Posted by Emma
Day Of Food – France
In France we swapped chocolate filled mini croissants for regular ones and traded Spanish bread for baguettes and many types of cereales filled bread. Influenced by what we experienced when staying with Yves and Ingrid our cooking has become a little more French as well. This is what we ate in one day in France. – Posted by Emma
Day Of Food – Italy
This is what we ate during one cycling day in Italy. We ticked all the boxes for the clichéd Italian food as our day started from a forest free camp continued as we cycled through towns pre-occupied with the Italy vs Slovakia world cup match and ended in our quietest free camp yet next to the Fonte Avellana monastery. Maybe the monks vow of silence has spread to the forest critters! – Posted by Emma
Day Of Food – Croatia
We tried to document a Croatian day of food on three different occasions, failing each time to capture our evening meal – maybe it was sun stroke? We finally managed to photograph every meal on our last day in Croatia. We stayed in a caravan within a campground with a kitchen and we invite you to admire the fine china used for our dinner. – Posted by Emma
Day Of Food – Bosnia
We captured our final full day of food in Bosnia which for a change didn’t include any bosnian pie. We had final breakfast with Amin in Sarajevo, met two cyclists on their way from Tibet to France after lunch and found a free camp spot for our final night in the country where just for a change, it started to rain as we cooked dinner. – Posted by Justin
Day Of Food – Bulgaria
Bulgaria confounded us a bit on the food front: we struggled to find fresh bread shops like those we had been accustomed to in the rest of the Balkans and fresh fruit and vegetables weren’t on shop shelves where we expected to see them. At the end of this day of food we decided to treat ourselves to a stay at the posh Hotel Bulgaria in Minerali Bani. – Posted by Emma
Moment Of Food – Greece
Being in Greece for less than 24 hours as we transited from Bulgaria to Turkey we only had time to document one meal along the way. We ate lunch in the town of Kastanies which was largely deserted on a hot Sunday afternoon before we headed down the road for a cool swim in an empty music festival site next to the Ardas river. – Posted by Justin
Day Of Food – Turkey
This was the final day of Bayram, meaning we were low on food supplies as many small shops were shut. Our shopping list has shrunk a bit in rural turkey with muesli, chickpeas, jam, couscous (and of course pork products) all off the shelves. We spent our second to last day on the road cycling from the edge of Tuz Golu (Salt Lake) then turning East to follow the silk road route passing a number of caravanserai along the way. – Posted by Emma
Day Of Food – Turkey 2
Our day of food began well with breakfast at our free camp wedged between a newly blossoming hazelnut grove and a slow flowing canal. The weather was warm enough that we could afford a leisurely start to the day enjoying the early morning sun and having a dry tent to pack away. At lunch time the sun was still shining for our stop in the town of Unye before we headed out on minor road around a peninsula to Persembe. – Posted by Justin
Day Of Food – Georgia
Being in Georgia for five days we thought would give us ample time to document a day of food however as the days ticked by and we forgot to take photos of what we ate we only managed to capture the meals from our last full day. Even on this Easter Monday breakfast had to be quickly recreated once the dinner dishes had been cleared away. – Posted by Justin
