Staying Fit: Home Activities to Keep You Moving

Since there are isolated surges in the number of cases, certain parts of the country will be safer if they stay at home. Besides, it is still too risky to go to a gym. The higher rate of breathing makes it more likely for you to contract and spread COVID-19 particulates. Fortunately, you can get your endorphin fix at home (even without a home gym).

Even if you do not have the motivation to work out every day, it is alright. There are other ways you can sweat out the toxins without sticking to a routine. Here are some activities where you can have fun while burning those calories:

Swimming

So long as you have a safe means of lowering the pH level in your pool, you can spend however much time you would like in it. Swimming is a versatile activity that you can partake in for leisure or as part of your daily exercise. But if you want to burn some calories, you will have to do more than just lounging in an inflated mattress.

When swimming for leisure, your legs and arms will still be moving to keep your body afloat. This constant motion will happen subconsciously as it is an innate behavior in all humans. On the other hand, if you plan to make the most out of your time by working out, any exercise you perform will be more difficult in the water compared to on land. For instance, jumping jacks or recovering from a squat will take up more energy in the water because your body has to exert a buoyant force to combat the reaction force of the surrounding liquid.

Furthermore, staying afloat in the water is a great way to keep your body moving, even if you are injured. The liquid will reduce the pressure on your knees to lift your upper half, for example. Swimming is often the activity prescribed to those who need to lose weight but have issues with mobility due to an injury in their arm or knee.

Gardening

Tending to the land takes a lot of energy from the sun and your body. This is especially true when you are doing it all by yourself from the very beginning. The land preparation itself takes a lot of squats to accomplish, working out your biceps and triceps as you dig. Planting the seeds will also include more squatting until you finally cover up the holes that you prepared.

Maintaining the garden will also cause you to sweat. You have to be keen on catching any illnesses the plants might have been affected by, requiring more squats. This attention needs to be paid every day because one sick plant could affect the others. It might also be the prevalence of pets in the garden. Figuring out the solution to these problems as fast as possible is the only way to protect your hard work.

Aside from being on the lookout for illnesses, you also need to water them every day. Depending on the size of your garden, this will keep you standing for at least 15 minutes to an hour. The positive outcome of this activity is that you can grow your healthy ingredients while sweating out toxins.

Motion Sensor Games

If you own a gaming system that allows you to play while moving, this is an easy way to keep your body moving in the living room. Nowadays, there are so many options to choose from. You can go bowling, play badminton, and even car racing without any other equipment besides your remote and the motion sensor device.

Other games do not need a remote, like workout games or those that involve dancing in front of the sensor. These will detect your movements and log them into the system’s interface to identify if you match the moves on the screen. For the dancing games, they might reduce your overall score for the round. Whereas in the workout programs, they can help you correct your posture and form without the presence of a coach in your living room.

People do not always have to leave their homes or buy gym equipment to work out. There are day-to-day activities that can help you get fit while reducing your stress levels. Consistency and perseverance are crucial to remember whenever someone is embarking o a journey toward improving their health and wellness. Burning the calories that you would like to get rid of takes a lot of time and patience. Know that you’ll get to your goal; have the discipline to work for it.
